General Information
The Entry-Portfolio Review is competitive, with historical acceptance rates ranging from 40% to 60%. These rates vary each year, depending on the number of applicants.
2025 Review Schedule
Note to Applicants
- Retake ADES 2630 at the next course offering if seats are available in the class and/or
- Resubmit a process portfolio at the following year's Entry-Portfolio Review.
Note: Faculty will not provide special assistance to review the resubmitted entry-review portfolio.
Submittal Process
Entry-Portfolio Review
- Files submitted in a format other than portable document format, PDF, are automatically rejected and disqualified.
- The student's name cannot appear on any of the work. Any portfolio with a readable student name on individual projects will be disqualified.
- The student's name will only appear on UNT Slideroom.
Entry-Portfolio Review Content
The entry portfolio must contain the following four sections.
A. Schematic Design & Research including the following.
- Statistical Profile for location, end users, and project design type.
- Cultural imagery with key concepts noted.
- Design imagery and analysis as it pertains to this specific project type.
B. Design Development & Ideation including the following.
- Concept statement that clearly defines the design principles and mission for this project.
- Ideation visuals include an adjacency matrix, bubble and block diagrams of potential space plans for the project.
- Floor plan and ceiling plan design options.
- Multiple images of a physical study model demonstrate an understanding of three-dimensional space. Color is allowed.
- Concept development, quick sketch techniques, and design development for the three-dimensional model submission. Color is allowed.
C. Contract Documents with drafting conventions including the following.
- A dimensioned floorplan with dimension strings demonstrating an understanding of circulation, plan graphics and layout, scale, drafting conventions (line quality, symbols, identification/ labeling, accuracy), and lettering.
- A dimensioned FF&E floor plan demonstrating an understanding of circulation, plan graphics and layout, scale, drafting conventions (line quality, symbols, identification/ labeling, accuracy), and lettering.
- A reflected ceiling plan demonstrating an understanding of circulation, plan graphics and layout, scale, drafting conventions (line quality, symbols, identification/ labeling, accuracy), and lettering.
- Interior elevations demonstrate an understanding of plan graphics, scale, and drafting conventions using line quality, symbols, dimensioning, identification/ labeling, accuracy, and lettering.
D. Finished 3D Model and hand drawn perspective. Color is allowed.
