About

Heather Close has been an academic advisor at the College of Visual Arts & Design since August 2019. Before that, she was an advisor for Texas Woman’s University and administrative assistant for the former CVAD Department of Art Education and Art History.

She is a UNT alum with a B.A. in sociology and an M.Ed. in higher education. Using the knowledge and skills obtained from those degrees, along with her 25+ years of higher education work experience, she enjoys providing guidance to students on navigating college and choosing majors.  Heather was the 2022 recipient of the UNT Advisor of the Year award.

When not at work, Heather reads, thrift shops, and hangs with her husband, son, two cats and puppy dog. While not an artist, she is attracted to the arts and fascinated by others’ talent and love or need to create. Her favorite visual art media are ceramics, jewelry, and watercolor painting.
