About

 
Mikaela Bachmann is a lecturer and director of licensure in the CVAD Department of Art Education at the University of North Texas, as well as the sponsor of UNT’s Art Education Preservice Student Chapter. She also serves as president of the Art in Special Education Interest Group within the National Art Education Association.
 
Her work critically examines ableist practices in public education, and promotes art education as a means to reimagine disability and disability futures. She has taught art and art history in K-12 schools in Western Pennsylvania and North Texas, and has been the regional director of Texas’s state secondary art competition, Visual Art Scholastic Event. 
 
Bachmann holds a Ph.D. (2024) in Art Education from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, an M.A. (2015) in Art Education with a specialization in special populations from Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a B.F.A. (2013) and Art K-12 Teacher Certification from West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia.
