North Texan article

Before obtaining his Master of Fine Arts in 2022 from UNT’s College of Visual Arts and Design, Phil retired from a consulting career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), where he developed and led a practice that delivered enterprise risk reduction services to global clients. Phil’s art practice is based in North Texas, and his mediums primarily consist of acrylic plastic, metal, fiber, and resin, all infused with color and texture.

Phil’s art is influenced by science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical research (STEMM). He is the artist-in-residence at UNT’s BioDiscovery Institute (BDI), a Carnegie Tier 1 research university, where he interacts with research scientists as they seek to make plants more resilient, useful and bountiful. Phil’s current research involves creating visual art to provoke innovation and intellectual exploration by connecting the viewer's analytical and creative thinking.

He received the International Sculpture Center's 2022 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture award. Phil has been profiled in the Americans for the Arts ARTSBLOG and was selected for the 2017 New Texas Talent XXIV exhibition, which introduces and promotes emerging artists to the commercial market. Phil was previously a board member of the Business Council for the Arts and Big Thought.

Phil and his spouse, Monica, are ardent CVAD supporters who seek to provide students with the means to explore their creative and innovative potential. They have three children who graduated from UNT.

CVAD Mission: Cultivating creative talent and critical minds within a collaborative and caring environment.
