CVAD Information Technology Services
Your Technology Support Site
You have reached the primary technology support site for the College of Visual Arts and Design students, faculty, and staff: we support all technology resources, equipment, and services provided or supported by the college.
We can also help if you need help with a resource outside of the college: feel free to contact us with any questions or for assistance with any technology-related issues you may be experiencing.
You can contact us via our Online Service Desk in Microsoft Teams with questions and receive immediate support on any issue. You can submit a ticket to report an issue, and we will follow up with you.
Frequently Asked Questions: If you have a question, please check our Frequently Asked Questions web page. The FAQs provide answers on a wide range of topics, for example: How to request card swipe access to a room in one of our buildings? How to make a reservation to use a room in the Art Building? Where to get help with an issue with your email? How to schedule and host a webinar?
Academic and Research Technology Support
Welcome to the College of Visual Arts and Design, Information Technology Services home page. Our office manages the CVAD Service Desk to assist all CVAD faculty, staff and students. We manage the technological operations within the college, from hardware and software procurement to systems management and technology support.
If you have questions or are experiencing an issue with any of the services provided to you, whether our office manages the service or not, start by contacting us directly through the CVAD Service Desk. You can get immediate support through our online service desk in Microsoft Teams, which allows us to provide remote support even when you are not on campus. In most cases, we will be able to resolve the issue you are experiencing without the need for a physical visit to our office. We are available for support and or consultation on all technology-related matters. If the issue you are experiencing is less time-sensitive, or you have a request that may require some follow-up: please use the link on this page to submit a support ticket, and we will schedule a time to work with you.
Faculty research and student exhibition support are available beginning on the Monday following the 12th class day each term. If you are a faculty researcher and would like assistance with a research project, please submit a ticket to request support, and we can schedule a time to work with you. Please provide a detailed description of your project so we can prepare for the meeting in advance: include a project description, an expected timeline and information on the technology that will be part of the project. Contact us as early as possible in your planning stages so we can help ensure the process goes smoothly and allocate the resources you will need.

Computer and Technology Labs and Services
CVAD Student Computer Lab
The CVAD Student Computer Lab is open to all UNT students. In addition to traditional computer lab services, you will find curriculum-focused services, such as software, hardware, and other services required by students enrolled in CVAD courses. We offer a wide range of services to support the academic needs of our students, such as color laser jet printing on paper of various types and sizes, large format color printing, standard and large format scanning, photo printing, 3D printing, graphic design tools and tablets, collaboration spaces, and specialized lighting areas for students to review your work. All of the software applications used in CVAD courses are available in your computer lab. The CVAD Student Computer Lab is always open during the university's normal business hours, and we offer additional hours on weeknights and weekends.
Fabrication Labs
The CVAD Fabrication Labs provides a wide range of digital fabrication equipment, at no additional cost, to all students who are currently enrolled in a CVAD course — students may need to provide their own materials in some cases. Students are first required to enroll in the CVAD Fabrication Labs course group in Canvas: this is where you can work on your project with the Fabrication Labs staff to prepare for your visit to the labs to use the equipment. After completing the mandatory Safety Training, you can schedule appointments on the equipment or come as a walk-in if the needed equipment is available. Some available equipment includes CNC Routers, a five-axis machine, a Plasma cutter, waterjet-laser cutting, WASER, 3D resin printing, vinyl-cutting, fabric printing, RISO Printing, and embroidery and sewing machines.
CVAD Photo Documentation Service
The CVAD Photo Documentation Service is available to currently enrolled students — at no additional cost — to photograph their academic artwork professionally. The service is staffed by CVAD Photography program graduate students and is located in the Art Building, Room 316. Sessions with a photographer are available by appointment. Students may choose to check out photography equipment, such as cameras, and light kits, using the CVAD Equipment Checkout service. If the artwork is not onsite, it will be necessary to go this route, but you can schedule a consultation appointment to discuss with the photographer beforehand so you can better photograph the work.
Online Services
MyLab Virtual Computer Lab
The MyLab Virtual Computer Lab is now available. Windows users have access to Citrix Workspace, hosted by the G. Brint Ryan College of Business, which provides streamed Windows applications and desktops. Mac users must access Guacamole, hosted by the College of Visual Arts and Design, which provides remote access to macOS computers.
The Citrix solution is integrated with Guacamole so that Mac users can run Windows applications directly from their computers.
Appointments and Reservations
CVAD spaces (conference rooms, meeting spaces, and critique spaces) are available through our online reservation system. All CVAD employees have permission to reserve many spaces, but some spaces, critique spaces, for instance, may have some restrictions on reservations: program coordinators and visual art technicians, in this example. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Equipment Checkout
All CVAD faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students may reserve equipment for checkout through WebCheckOut. We have a wide assortment of equipment, such as cameras, tablets, projectors, displays, and portable video players. You can use the equipment as needed to complete CVAD course assignments, work on a piece that is part of your academic work — even if not directly course-related, or prepare for an exhibition. The equipment is picked up from the CVAD Computer Lab unless otherwise noted. We can get you started if you need help using a piece of equipment. We are available for consultation on exhibition preparation.
